Workshop Goals

  • To focus on the place of Spiritual Assessment in healthcare with emphasis on nursing.
  • To present the rationale of Spiritual Assessment and discuss the processes and issues involved.
  • To create an assessment tool for use in clinical nursing practice.
  • To use video presentations to observe spiritual assessments in current practice.

Target Audience: Palliative Care Team Members, Educators/Facilitators, Social Workers, Managers, Pastoral Care, Nursing Staff and Allied Health Employees.

Speaker - Doreen Westera BN MScN, Med

Doreen has been teaching nursing for over 30 years.  She has taught nursing students at the University of Alberta, Queens University, and Memorial University. She has authored the book 'Spirituality in Nursing Practice: The Basics and Beyond (2017), and has developed 13 educational video’s focused on spirituality in nursing practice for use in education and clinical practice'.

Cost: No charge for Central Health employees

         $50.00 for external participants (fee includes lunch)
