Honorary Membership

Each year in conjunction with ARNNL’s Awards for Excellence in Nursing, ARNNL Council may bestow Honorary Membership on individual members of the profession and others who have rendered distinguished service or valuable assistance to the Association, in particular, and the nursing profession in general.

Posthumous nominations are welcome. Nominations are accepted for Honorary Membership for Nurses and Honorary Membership for Non-Nurses (Public).

 

Deadline: February 28

Nominations to be submitted online by the deadline of February 28th.  Nominations received after the deadline will not be considered until the following year

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Honorary membership shall be conferred on individuals who in their nursing careers have met criterion 1 and at least two others of the following criteria:
    1. Contributed to the development of the Association (e.g., council member, committee membership, chapter involvement, special interest group development).
    2. Contributed to improving the health status of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
    3. Contributed to the growth and development of the nursing profession through leadership in nursing practice, education, administration, policy and/or research.
    4. Made a significant contribution to the promotion of nursing to the public.
    5. Has brought honor to the profession.
 
  • Honorary membership shall be conferred on individuals other than nurses who have met criterion 1 and at least two others of the following criteria:
    1. Contributed to the development of the Association.
    2. Contributed to and supported the nursing profession to improve the health status of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
    3. Contributed to the growth and development of the nursing professional through leadership and support to nursing practice, education, administration, policy and/or research.
    4. Made a significant contribution to the promotion of nursing to the public.

 

Nomination Process

  • Review the criteria for honorary membership (above) to determine if the potential nominee meets the criteria.
  • Obtain the nominee's permission to submit her/his name for nomination for honorary membership.
  • To complete the nomination form online you may need to review a curriculum vitae from the nominee, personally interview the nominee and, if necessary, interview present or former colleagues of the nominee.  Evidence submitted should include examples of the contribution and reflect the criteria outlined.
  • Include contact information of two references.
  • Forward curriculum vitae/resumé of the nominee to info@arnnl.ca.
  • Complete the online nomination form.
    • Please note that you can leave the nomination form and resume it later if you use the same computer and the same web browser by clicking 'Save Draft.' If you attempt to resume completing the nomination on another computer or using a different browser, you will have to restart from the beginning.

• The deadline to submit your nomination is February 28th.
